A married male's perspective on life, marriage, and kids, in black and white.
Shulchan Aruch תרסח says to eat in the sukka without a brocho b/c it is a ספק whether or not it is really yom tov. There are however meany people who dont hold of eating in the sukka on shmini atzeres )see the minchas elazar for a overview of various opinions). Minhag Chabad is to eat in the sukkah.
My family eats in the succah until Simchas Torah, but we're the only ones in our shared building succah. My mother's family (chassidishe background) used to only make kiddush in the succah on Shemini Atzeres. My father's minhagim are yeshivishe, though he says it's halacha to eat in the succah and not a minhag.
We don't. Although my brother is having guests over on yontif who do, and he called my father all frantic. My father said, "So? Eat in the succah with your guests."
We eat in the succah on Shemini Atzeres night but on Shemini Atzeres day only make kiddush (with mezonos) in the morning, but eat lunch back in the house.I find many people whose minhag was NOT to eat either part or all of Shemini Atzeres in the succah, are altering their minhagim to be "more machmir" and their heritage is getting lost....Pity.
